Parking garage will pump out water

The designers of downtown Loveland's long-awaited parking garage knew that when they dug the 15-foot-deep hole for the underground structure, they would hit water. They just didn't expect this much.

According to a presentation to the Loveland City Council last week, the site of the parking garage on East Second Street between Lincoln and Cleveland avenues sits on an artesian well, and the floor of the garage would be about 4 feet below the water table.

The city's staff and its consultant expected to have to continuously pump water from the site — about 130 gallons per minute — but discovered flows of 180 to 350 gpm.
